The Macks Creek Pirates opened their Spring baseball season with a win against PCL opponent Fair Play on Monday night. When the smoke cleared it was the Pirates emerging with a 13-0, 5-inning win over the host Hornets.

Junior righthander Dakota Willis started and picked up the win in his first start. He went all five innings and allowed no runs on two hits while strikking out 12.

The Pirates plated four runs in the first and never looked back. They scored three more in the fourth before creating the final margin with six runs in the top of the fifth. Sean Green, Willis, Josh Botta, Chase Christian, Anthony Taylor, and  Wyatt Brooks powered the big inning with RBIs.

Dakota Willis led Macks Creek offensively with two hits in two at bats.  Sean Green had a double, Kyler Gabriel a singled and a stolen base while Josh Botta and Anthony Taylor both collected singles. A defensive spotlight was when Chase Christian turned an unassisted double play to end the bottom of the fourth.

The Pirates sit at 1-0 on the young season. Their game with Stover was cancelled due to field conditions on Tuesday. On Thursday they welcome in PCL opponent Humansville for their home opener. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
