The Macks Creek Alumni Scholarship Board of Directors met this past Saturday. The group gathers annually to consider their investments, reflect on the past fiscal year and make plans for the next. Six graduates of the Macks Creek Class of 2025 earned scholarship awards this year. Addison Ratliff, Brooklyn Duggan, Trinity Husong and Savannah Leach earned the Keith & Maxine McClanahan Scholarship in the amount of $2,225. Paxten Brashears was awarded the Alumni Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and Chase Christian received the Garnet and Caroline Carnahan scholarship in the amount of $500. In total, $10,400 worth of scholarships were awarded this year.
The fund was established in 1979 and thanks to the donations of many alumni through the years has grown. For example, Keith and Maxine McClanahan made a very generous donation in 1999 while Garnett Carnahan made another several years later. The interest generated through the investment of these donations provides funding for scholarships each year. Since its inception, the Alumni Scholarship Board has awarded $387,125 in total to graduating Macks Creek School seniors. The Keith & Maxine McClanahan Scholarship has awarded $323,875, the Macks Creek Alumni Scholarship, $52,900, and the Garnett & Caroline Carnahan, $10,350.
Anyone interested in donating to the fund should contact Mildred Webster. If needed, Dr. Josh Phillips at Macks Creek School has her contact information. The fund is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity making all donations tax deductible. Please consider visiting with your estate planner about donating to the fund. Lastly, many families through the years have gathered donations to the fund in memory of deceased loved ones.
