This past Saturday, the Macks Creek Alumni Scholarship Board of Directors held its annual meeting to review financial investments, evaluate the previous fiscal year and strategize for the upcoming year. Macks Creek School's Career & College Advisor, Mrs. Candy Bothwell highlighted the students who were awarded scholarships this year. The board celebrated the achievements of these graduates from the Class of 2026 who received a total of $10,100 in funding as follows:
Keith & Maxine McClanahan Scholarship ($2,150 each): William Humphrey, Lavery
Gorsline, Jade Stasiak, and Gabby Eversole.
Macks Creek Alumni Scholarship ($1,000): Morgan Buck.
Garnet and Caroline Carnahan Scholarship ($500): Owyn Charlton.
Since its creation in 1979, the fund has flourished through the sustained generosity of alumni. Significant contributions, such as those from Keith and Maxine McClanahan in 1999 and Garnett Carnahan in later years, have built an endowment that uses investment interest to provide annual awards. To date, the Alumni Scholarship Board has distributed a lifetime total of $397,225 to Macks Creek seniors. This includes $332,475 from the McClanahan fund, $53,900 from the Alumni fund, and $10,850 from the Carnahan fund.
The meeting also served as an occasion to honor dedicated service and acknowledge leadership transitions. The Board extended its deepest gratitude to Ms. Martha Wood, who has meticulously served as Secretary for 46 years since 1980. Reflection was also given to the late Mr. Gary Golston, who passed away in December. Gary was a longtime board member and former President who remained committed to the organization even after transitioning his leadership role to Mildred Webster. Looking forward, the board is pleased to welcome its newest members, Mrs. Mary Collins and Mrs. Toni Edwards, with Mrs. Edwards stepping into the role of Secretary.

The board encourages families to consider the fund for memorial donations or estate planning to help future graduates reach their goals.
