The Macks Creek Pirates brought 4 wrestlers to the Class 1 District 2 tournament in Butler today. Freshmen Bentley Campbell and John Bicknell, as well as Juniors Owyn Charlton and William Humphrey.
Bentley showed great dedication to his sport and dropped a weight class going into districts. He went 0-2 for the day, but wrestled 2 tough matches.
John dropped his first match to the number 2 seed from Cole Camp after a first round bye. He wrestled a very strong match against Windsor and pulled out a major decision win, 12-2. John moves on to wrestle tomorrow.
Owyn lost his first match to the number 1 seed from Butler after a first round bye. In the 3rd round he faced a wrestler from Hollister and won by tech fall (17-0) to move on to day 2 of districts.
Will came out strong in his first match against a wrestler from Strafford where he won by major decision 14-4. In the quarters he faced a wrestler from Summit Christian Academy and was pinned in the first round. To keep his tournament alive Will faced Holden and earned a pin at 2:57 of the match to keep his district run going into tomorrow.
Last year the Pirates only had 1 wrestler make it through to Day 2. Having 3 wrestlers in the tournament tomorrow is super exciting. Wrestling will start at 10 tomorrow at Butler High School. Good luck Pirates!! 💙💛
Congratulations to a trio of Macks Creek Wrestlers: John Bicknell, Owyn Charlton, and Will Humphrey. All three advanced to day two of the District wrestling competition in Butler! Congratulations to Bentley Campbell on a strong Freshmen season on the mats! #MCPirates
